Federal Ministry of Education

The Federal Ministry of Education has been vested with the overall responsibility for laying down national policies and guidelines for uniform standards for all levels of education in Nigeria as enshrined in various statutory instruments. The UBE Commission (UBEC) is Federal Governments Agency saddled with the responsibility for coordinating all aspects of UBE programme implementation. Oando Foundation’s interventions are guided by these policies.

Universal Basic Education (UBEC)

State Ministry of Education/State Universal Basic Education Boards

While the State Ministries are responsible for education policy coordination and planning in respective states, SUBEBs are responsible for the implementation of basic education programmes at the state and local government levels. Oando Foundation will work with the State ministries of Education and SUBEB to enhance implementation of strategies in basic educational sector in the Oando adopted Schools.

Local Government Education Authority

At the primary level, Local Governments share responsibilities with the State and Federal Government. They are in charge of primary schools within their local government. Oando foundation will work will the Local Government Education Authorities to implement all educational activities within the Local government.

Educate a Child Logo

Educate-A-Child (EAC)

Oando Foundation in partnership with EAC, implemented a three-year project (2016 – 2019) to increase access to primary education by enrolling 60,000 Out-Of-School-Children (OOSC) across 100 public schools in Nigeria. To date, the Foundation has successfully enrolled 60,955 OOSC with a 77% retention rate.

Educate-A-Child, a program of Education Above All, is a global initiative launched by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar, which aims to significantly reduce the numbers of children worldwide who are missing out on their right to education.

Sumitomo Chemicals Co Ltd.

Sumitomo Chemicals in collaboration with Oando Foundation, through the establishment of 8 solar-powered ICT centers and 2 Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) classes is bridging the existing gaps in digital literacy and pre-primary education. ICT teachers now have access to various audio-visual teaching materials and ECCD teachers have their capacity strengthened in ECCD curriculum delivery and use of participatory and collaborative teaching methodologies.

OVH Energy

OVH Energy, Nigeria’s leading downstream marketing Company and licensee of the Oando retail brand partnered with the Oando Foundation to rehabilitate Model Primary School in Onne, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. The school was equipped with furniture for pupils and teachers, teaching and learning materials, painting and renovation of classroom blocks and an office block.

North-East Regional Initiative (NERI)

Following the devastation caused by insurgents to school communities in some parts of North-East Nigeria, Oando Foundation partnered with NERI to increase enrolment and quality of learning in rebuilt schools across communities hardest hit by the insurgency in Adamawa State. Two schools rebuilt by NERI have been adopted and are supported by the Foundation in Muchalla and Dzangula communities.

USAID – Education Crisis Response (ECR)

In partnership with ECR, the Foundation partnered with ECR to mainstream two batches of 2,080 Out-Of-School Children (largely internally displaced children) from non-formal learning centers into formal schools in Adamawa and Bauchi states.

United States Consulate

United States Consulate Grant Awards

In 2016, Oando Foundation was a recipient of the U.S. Consulate Grant Award to support the rehabilitation of Local Gov’t Nursery & Primary School, Jagunna Itori Ewekoro, a school with over 500 pupils and 10 teachers who were restricted a derelict poultry pen as a learning space. Through the co-funded partnership, the school was rebuilt and provided basic amenities of water, sanitary facilities, furniture, and educational aids. Capacity strengthening of Teachers and School Based Management Committee members were provided respectively.

Protection Plus Service Limited

Together, Protection Plus Service Limited and Oando Foundation partnered to establish a fully equipped solar-powered ICT centre at St. Patrick’s Primary School, Etinan, Akwa Ibom State.

DFID sponsored Teacher Development Programme (TDP)

The Foundation is also partnering with DFID through the TDP programme to strengthen the capacity of teachers in all adopted schools for improved learning; including the distribution of Teaching and Learning materials (i.e., teacher guides, teaching journals, lessons plans, flash cards etc.) to create a print-rich learning environment.

TheirWorld in collaboration with Oando Foundation empowered 120 girls in 2 of our adopted schools by giving them a unique opportunity to learn important technology skills in a safe environment through an innovative pilot project – Code Clubs. The innovative Coding Clubs provided technology-enabled interactive spaces that supported academic interests and promoted STEM education for girls.
