Oando Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Oando PLC, has announced the launch of its employee volunteer programme, tagged Inspired Hands, as part of activities to commemorate the annual United Nations Volunteers Day on December 5, 2012. The Inspired Hands programme was borne out of Oando Foundation’s desire to provide a structured platform for employees to give time and talent to uplift local communities.
Presently, over 100 employees have signed up to donate a collective 400 hours each week under the initiative. Each employee is expected to volunteer up to four working hours to participate in social development efforts within the Foundation’s Adopt-A-School Programme. The focus areas are:
Oando employees have so far donated over 14,000 books to schools in its Adopt-a-School initiative across Nigeria, and are actively involved as motivational speakers in the annual Children’s Day celebration.
Commenting on the launch of Inspired Hands, the Director of Oando Foundation, Ms. Tokunboh Durosaro, said: “Inspired Hands affirms our commitment at both the corporate and individual level to socio-economic development. This programme will enable our employees inspire others through the selfless application of their skills, experience and resources. We are optimistic that with the quality of talents at Oando, children and other stakeholders will benefit immensely from this intervention.”
The array of activities available through Inspired Hands is designed to significantly bolster the organizational, leadership, communications, and decision-making skills of volunteers and children involved. Whilst donating time and effort, Oando PLC employees are expected to expand upon their organizational network outside the workplace.
Commenting further, Ms. Durosaro adds, “Inspired Hands will also provide a unique opportunity to increase employee awareness and interest in civic duty and community issues, as well as create a sustainable platform through which employees can provide much-needed mentorship and support to Oando Scholars whilst collaborating with parents to evaluate and further develop their ward’s educational goals.”
Importantly, Inspired Hands creates an avenue for students from institutions under Oando Foundation’s Adopt-a-School initiative to remain actively engaged in essential developmental programmes, irrespective of the level of refurbishment projects in their schools.
